Near the town of Larkhall, Lanarkshire, lies a small village called Millheugh at the Avon Gorge, stood Broomhill House. Its owner, Captain Henry Montgomery McNeil Hamilton was posted out to South Africa for military service in 1897 during the Bore War. It was here where he met an Indian woman named Sita Phurdeen who worked in the mines and they later returned to Scotland together in 1902. Known now as the Black Lady of Larkhill, Sita was said to be unhappy at her situation here in Scotland and had returned home. Many people refuse this information and believe she was instead murdered.
